Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant)
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind — cow, oat, almond, soy)
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (optional — makes it creamier)
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional — adds thickness and omega-3s)
Choose your flavor:
- Berry: 1/2 cup frozen or fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, or mixed)
- Banana & cinnamon: 1/2 banana, sliced + 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Chocolate: 1 tbsp cocoa powder + 1 tbsp peanut butter
- Apple & walnut: 1/2 apple, diced + 2 tbsp walnuts, chopped + 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
1. Mix
- In a jar or container, combine the oats, milk, yogurt (if using), honey, and chia seeds (if using).
- Stir well.
- Add your flavor ingredients and stir again.
2. Refrigerate
- Cover with a lid.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight (8–12 hours).
- The oats absorb the liquid and become thick and creamy.
3. Eat
- Stir once — it will have thickened.
- If too thick, add a splash of milk.
- Eat cold straight from the jar, or microwave for 1–2 minutes if you prefer warm.
- Top with extra fruit, nuts, or a drizzle of honey if you like.
Tips
- Use rolled oats, not instant. Instant oats turn to mush. Rolled oats keep a nice chewy texture.
- The ratio to remember: 1 part oats to 1 part liquid. Add yogurt for creaminess, chia for thickness.
- Make 3 days worth at once. Prep multiple jars on Sunday — they keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Frozen berries work great. They thaw overnight and release their juices into the oats, naturally sweetening them.
Variations
| Variation | Change | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tropical | Use coconut milk, add mango and shredded coconut | Vacation in a jar |
| Protein boost | Add 1 tbsp protein powder or 2 tbsp peanut butter | Keeps you full longer |
| Savory-ish | Use less honey, add grated carrot, walnuts, and ginger | Like carrot cake for breakfast |
| With granola | Top with a handful of granola in the morning for crunch | Creamy + crunchy |
Result
A thick, creamy, no-cook breakfast waiting for you in the fridge. Cold, slightly sweet, endlessly customizable — and you made it in 5 minutes the night before. Mornings just got easier.
